Comments on English Culture/Strange Things I've Learned

I wasn't sure how different England would be from the US. We share a language (kind of), but it's kind of funny how two people who share a language can still manage to have trouble understanding each other.

1. I thought "cheers" was a way to say goodbye. It actually means "thank you".
2. Apparently fried chicken is an exotic food here. People get excited and post on facebook when they are going out for fried chicken with friends. KFC is a real sit down restaurant over here- with a full menu. Weird right?
3. A lot of stores that sell unhealthy food have US names. Examples: AmeriCandy & Maryland Chicken. I have seen more but I can't remember exact names. They think we are all obese.
4. European women are in shape because they aren't afraid to build stairs in Europe. Seriously- I've climbed more stairs here in a week than I would in a month or two in Starkville.
5. All swans, even if they are on private land, are the property of the Queen.
6. Queen Victoria was England's longest serving Queen (63 years 7 months) - But Queen Elizabeth II will surpass her in four years.
7. The US Embassy in England is the only US Embassy in the world that is NOT on US soil. The Duke of Winchester owns the land, and he refuses to sell unless we will let him have Florida... Why he wants Florida, I do not know.
8. They call a bathroom a "bog". Huh???
9. The UK is every bit of a melting pot as the US. I swear I've heard 30 different languages since landing here.
10. The bedrock here and in France is chalk- that's why it was so easy for them to drill the Chunnel.

That's all for today. I'll think of more later.
